Betty Friedan asked these questions fifty years ago . I think we have made progress.
It is absolutely fine to be just a mom. While the kids are tiny that is your main job. Many women do feel that they want to contribute to life on several different levels.
Working mothers of course have their own baliwicks.

Most days I am mom first, ok, every day I am mom first. But I make time for me to be me. I love to read, and paint. So If it means throwing on a cartoon for a bit so I can read some of my book, then I do.
I got a new paint set the other day. Just a cheap little one, and some paper for it. Well my 3yr old wants to color too. So I give her a peice, and she watches me make mine. It is kind of annoying when I just need peace. But at the same time, I like encouraging her to learn to be creative.
I used to work outside the home. I liked it and enjoyed it, but got burnt out. So being home now is nice. I do go with my DH to work, for the lunch shift to help out. But we take our daughter with us. lol. That will change though once school starts. Then I can be a grown up on my own.
I like my life. Yes I wish I could go out and do my own thing some days. But its ok. I have great kids.

IT’S funny because my children tell’s me mom you do not cook anymore like you use to an my kids are 16,14, 11, i tell them that look it’s food for you guys to eat i am not going to come in here everyday an cook a big dinner they love chicken strips fries, we eat fast things like that maybe twice a week an the rest of the days we eat tuna sandwhich’s an the other days i cook a big dinner but i told my children not every night i will not cook a big dinner because i like to take some time out for me reading or on the computer,or just to relax my mind.but i guess moms are not suppose to relax.LOL
